The Professorship Ecology deals with different aspects of modern ecology and is structured in three research groups. The Small Mammal Ecology group has its focus on behavioural ecology, evolutionary ecology, population dynamics, and landscape ecology. The Polar and Ornithological Ecology group analyses the population and behavioural ecology of selected bird species in Germany and the Antarctic. The Vegetation Ecology group studies the consequences of environmental changes (nutrients, land use and climate) for the composition and diversity of plant communities.
